Each step in any one's life requires some thought and some planning. As we move through our stages in life we earn, what I term as, merit badges.
Through hard work and perseverance, my spouse and I have earned the home ownership merit badge. We've also earned the Harley Davidson merit badge, the toy hauler merit badge and so on and so forth.
We worked very hard, we sacrificed much but we knew that our perseverance, our steadfastness, would bare fruit. We can't say that it has been easy but we certainly appreciate the payoff.
On the other hand. I cringe when I hear a younger generation cry out because their plate is too full to do what I ascertain as a 'right of passage,' earning those merit badges. It seems, these 'younguns' want it given to them, on a platter, what it took most of us 30+ years to earn. And as we all know, the value of anything can never be appreciated until you've earned it.
But I can tell you this. My merit badges are made of the finest metal, they shine like the sun and they can never be inherited. You must earn it yourself!!
Your thoughts?...
Yes I totally agree my friend. I am a true believer in not just giving our kids what the hell ever they want even if we can. It buids character and integrity and appreciation to "earn" what wasnt handed to us. We HAD to work for it, our parent couldnt give it to us and they wouldnt have if they could either. I think parents who give it to their "younuns" wants and desires are only ruining that person as a person and their ability to appreciate earning something. The only thing given to us which is the greastest gift and free of charge is our salvation from the best friend we all have.
